A Civitas poll conducted this week in NC House District 2 shows Tim Spear (D) in the lead over his opponent Bob Steinburg (R), 50% to 35%.  15% are undecided.  The poll’s margin of error is 5.3%.  The poll of 353 registered voters was taken July 29-August 1st.

Spear hits the 50% mark in this poll, below which incumbents are generally considered to be in trouble.  This is a low figure, though,  for the two term State Representative.  In 2008, he won handily with 63% of the vote.  The large block of undecided voters is a further signal of disquiet among the electorate.  The anti-incumbent mood in North Carolina and across the country could further challenge Spear as he seeks his third term.

House District 2 encompasses Dare, Hyde, Chowan and Washington Counties
