The allegedly non-partisan OBX Chamber of Commerce is now posting Democratic Party political events on their website.  The recent Dare County Democratic Party Social was posted on the Chamber’s Event Calendar.

Truth or Dare is wondering how posting events for the Dare Dems fits in with the mission of the Chamber which is,

Promoting and developing the economic prosperity of our business community through leadership, advocacy, relationship development and innovation.

I suppose the thinking is that if you’re not a registered Democrat in Dare County, your chances of economic prosperity, leadership and relationship development will be limited.  Therefore (more…)

Dare County has elected its first Republican Sheriff.  Doug Doughtie easily defeated incumbent Rodney Midgett 56/44.  Midgett carried Manteo, Wanchese, Nags Head and East Lake while Doughtie carried Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills,  Colington, Manns Harbor, Stumpy Point and all precincts south of the Bonner Bridge.

The Colington Harbour Association is sponsoring a Meet the Candidates Night for the candidates for office of the Dare County Board of Commissioners and for the Office of Sheriff. The program will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Colington Volunteer Fire Department.

Candidates for the Board of Commissioners are Jack Shea (R, Incumbent) and Robin Mann (D). Candidates for the Office of Sheriff are Rodney Midgett (D) and Doug Doughtie (R). Candidates will make an opening statement, respond to written questions submitted by the audience, and by the candidates themselves, and make a closing statement. All statements and responses by the candidates will be timed.

Nearly all of the local candidates were on display Sunday as the Dare County League of Women Voters hosted a Candidate Reception at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall.  Many of the voters who turned out to listen were supporters of the candidates and they seated themselves wedding style; Republicans on one side, Democrats on the other.  In this first installment you’ll hear the Commissioner candidates as they make their case to the voters.
